As humans, we want to have meaning and purpose in life. We want to know that we exist for a reason and that we matter. But there's a third part of the "human existence" puzzle - your WHY.
Meaning allows us to experience the feeling that our life is part of a larger context; that we matter in the world. It gives us the basic comprehension that life makes sense. Purpose is what gives us direction. For a life of positive emotions, happiness and wellbeing, having purpose matters. But when it comes to being able to bounce back from traumatic life events, meaning is what gets us through. So they're not the same, but they're both important.
Now, why is what gets us out of bed in the morning. Why is what drives our purpose. It's the why we do what we do.
For me, my purpose is to help people meet and embrace their true selves and have a healthy wholebeing. My why is because a world full of authentic and socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually healthy people is heaven on earth and I want to do what I can to make that happen.
So here's the self-reflection question for this week. What is your why?
